This is the Google Pixel 4a design
The Google Pixel 4a is a lightweight smartphone (143 grams) made of plastic, with a single camera, a fingerprint scanner, a USB-C connector, a headphone jack, and only one color available: black. Nevertheless, the case is not waterproof or dustproof. The 5.81-inch screen is smaller than many other devices but still big enough to view all your apps, games, and photos comfortably. The screen has a full HD resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, and the OLED panel delivers beautiful colors and high contrast. The screen refresh rate of 60Hz is standard, although many devices now have 90Hz or 120Hz screens for smoother display. The front camera of the Pixel 4a has an 8-megapixel resolution in the top left of the screen, following a design trend found on other smartphones such as the Motorola Moto G8 Power and Huawei P40 Pro.
Smooth processor
Google has equipped the Pixel 4a with a Snapdragon 730G processor. This midrange chipset is energy-efficient and fast enough to run all popular apps. Most games can also be played smoothly, but heavy games may not work on the highest settings. Despite the adequacy of the Snapdragon 730G processor, it is already a year old and less powerful than the newer chipsets in competing devices. Therefore, the Pixel 4a is not the fastest smartphone in its price range. The RAM size is 6GB, which is a normal size and sufficient for frequently switching between recently used apps and games. Keep in mind that the Pixel 4a does not have a microSD card slot. Therefore, you cannot expand the internal storage. The base model of the Pixel 4a comes with 128GB of storage, which is decent. This provides enough space for all your apps, photos, movies, and music.
The battery charges quickly
The Google Pixel 4a is powered by a 3140 mAh battery, which is almost the same size as the Pixel 3a and a typical size for this type of smartphone. The battery life of the Pixel 3a is good and the Pixel 4a easily lasts a full day with the help of its more energy-efficient processor. Like almost all smartphones, the battery of the Pixel 4a cannot be replaced.
The phone comes with an 18-watt charger in the box. With this USB-C plug, the Pixel 4a’s battery can be charged in less than two hours. After half an hour of charging, the battery is half full, which is a common speed for a mid-range smartphone. However, there are more and more comparable devices that charge faster.
Still only one camera
Almost all midrange smartphones nowadays have two, three, or even four cameras on the back. The different lenses enable you to shoot a variety of photos and videos, from ultra-wide shots with a wide-angle lens to macro photos with a macro camera or zooming in without losing quality thanks to the telephoto lens.
The Google Pixel 4a cannot do this because it only has one camera on the back: a 12.2-megapixel lens that takes regular photos. Therefore, the device is less versatile than the competition. However, the photo and video quality makes up for it as Google provides the Pixel 4a with the same primary camera as the Pixel 4. That’s significant, considering the Pixel 4 is hundreds of dollars more expensive.
Software: Android without fuss
Google Pixel phones have an advantage in their software because they run on stock-Android, which means they have no extra apps and features. This saves space and makes it easier for Google to update their software quickly. With the Pixel 4a, you will get at least three years of software support and a monthly security update. Pixel phones are the first to receive new Android versions, so you will always have the latest features and security patches. Other brands also release updates, but they are not as frequent as Google’s updates.
